Information for students arriving in Australia in February 2008

 

IDP Welcome Desks in Sydney and Melbourne International Airports

The IDP help desk is conveniently located near the "Meeting Point" area in the arrival hall of both the Sydney and Melbourne International Airports.

 

Dates: Monday 4th to Sunday 24th February 2008

Hours of Operation: 6 a.m to 2 p.m and 7 p.m to 10 p.m only.

 

The services are designed exclusively for new international students commencing their studies in Sydney and Melbourne in February 2008. If this is your first time in Sydney or Melbourne, and you need help, please visit the friendly staff at the IDP desk. They can assist you with :

 

  • Transfers to domestic connections, lost luggage recovery
  • Finding the most appropriate transport to your accommodation
  • Information on temporary accommodation and placement (if not pre-booked)
  • Making phone calls to your home, accommodation provider, home stay host family
  • Information on getting around the city including supply of maps, travel guide

 

You will also receive a complimentary welcome pack which includes an IDP International Calling Card, IDP International Student Arrival Guide and Student Diary. No service charges apply.

 

IDP City Orientation Tours in Sydney and Melbourne

IDP also conducts city tours meant for a newly-arrived international students. If you do not have friends or relatives to show you around or you have missed the orientation program at your education institution, then this tour is a must-attend.

 

The tour dates are on the following Saturdays : 23rd February, 1st March and 15th March 2008

 

The tour will start at 11 a.m at the IDP offices in Sydney and Melbourne and finish at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. All attendees will also receive an IDP Arrival Pack filled with practical merchandise.

 

The first part of the tour is a walk in the central business district to explain how to use the public transport, show you the good places to shop and eat, where to do your laundry, best ways of staying in touch with your family and friends back home and other useful tips. The second part consists of a bus ride to places of cultural and tourist interest like the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, MCG, War Memorial. Plenty of photo opportunities!
